Chesterfield County, which borders the City of Richmond to both the south and the west, is the region’s most populous county. Chesterfield County lies along the south banks of the James River and is commonly referred to as ‘Southside.’
As with much of the Richmond Metro, the western sections of Chesterfield are largely residential, office and retail with eastern and southern sections containing more industrial and manufacturing uses along Route 10 and I95. Along the western border (Powhatan), Route 288, opened in the middle 1990’s, connected the western sections Henrico and Chesterfield, and has spurred tremendous development in the corridor.
Chesterfield lacks the interstate access of Henrico County and relies more heavily on the Powhite Parkway, Chippenham Parkway, Midlothian Turnpike, Hull Street and Iron Bridge Road to connect residents to the both the City and the different areas of the county.
Common names for the different sections of Chesterfield include Bon Air, Midlothian, Huguenot, Robious, Chesterfield Courthouse, Mosely, Chester and ‘Chesterfield.’
Chesterfield’s northern and western sections along Robious Road/Huguenot Trail are considered the county’s most valuable yet generally trade at a slight discount to the most expensive areas in Henrico.
