Powhatan County is a predominantly rural county located along the western border of Chesterfield County and on the south banks of the James River. It is accessed primarily by Route 60 (Midlothian Turnpike) and Route 288. Route 522 also connects Powhatan to Goochland County across the James River.
Powhatan’s eastern sections are under development pressure due to its proximity to Route 288 and much of the high growth sections of Chesterfield.
